One of my elders, Dr. Khong preached a real good sermon today, simply titled "Love and Change".

He challenged us to see that while God is eternal, the world is ...   more »

what if the sky is red?
from the colours of the sun at dusk
like an artist splattering blood
carelessly across heavenly canvas.

do you feel heaven's anger?
spread by the soft winds of the dimming sky
that sky red, yes, but the earth redder
soaked in the blood of those who died.

what if trembling hands
of tortured minds (or what was left),
forgotten they were men
and thirst for fellow men's blood and death?

do you feel heaven's pain?
in every bullets sprayed at innocent lives
heaven's tears gushed from the slained
of the government's dirty gunfires.

what if the faceless sage
who has face only for the troubled world
for peace amidst that maddening rage
turned his face at the worst evil?

do you hear heaven's righteous will
in the silent footsteps on the battered street
the earth is red, the saffron redder still
which cries for the oppressed voiceless meek

On the other hand, our Deputy PM (whom I gladly didn't vote and will never vote for) issued his loving advice:

“we would like to remind our citizens in Myanmar not to interfere in the country’s domestic problems,” he said, adding that Malaysians should refrain from participating in any street demonstration for their own good. (here)

Looks like many Malaysian didn't quite heed the advice of their ayahanda Dato Seri - check out a troubling but thought provoking reflection by a friend

Almighty God,
Give us voice to cry.
Help us to pray.

We look to you, in times like this,
For mercy and for grace
How can we even hope in goodness in face with such rampant evils.
And these evils only served as a mirror to ourselves
A reminder that our hearts are as depraved, if not worse.

Our hearts, helpless and weak
Cry out to you.
Sometimes voiceless, sometimes, most of the times
Full of the angry words from within
Words of hatred and vengence.

Yet we know, each time we look at evil and sins
Each time we experience sorrow and sufferings,
We are reminded, again and again
By the sometimes small voice of your Spirit
Of the audacity, of the tremendous injustice, unspeakable evil done to your Son,
Our Lord Jesus Christ.

He took on himself
The weight of sin
He faced and confronted
Evil at its worst.
And instead of being crushed,
He crushed sin
Instead of being defeated,
He exhaust evil and defeated it.

There was the Prince of Peace
Hangin bloody on the tree
There was the True King
helpless and meek.

May we learn his way
The way of everlasting peace.
May we seek his face
The face of restorative justice
May we know him and love him,
The embodiment of Truth,
The Truth which sets us free

May your loving fatherly arms
Welcome Ps. Bae into your holy presence
May your comforting Spirit
comforts the family and loved ones of the deceased.
May your mighty strong hands
guard and protect the hostages of the Talibans
Of whatever nationality.
May your lovingkindness
So overwhelmed the Talibans
To give up their agenda
And follow yours.

God have mercy,
Lord have mercy.

Namo Tassa Christaya.

View Article  Too Long Have I Lived Among Those Who Hate Peace
Jan was right, we do not know which is worst, "sitting here and not knowing what to do or huddled up together calling for God!" (see here for the news: http://www.forbes.com/feeds/ap/2007/07/23/ap3940481.html) Every man and woman on this planet, I am sure wonder, will there ever be peace. And the Church many times loudly proclaimed, Yes, there is peace and we'll have it. Yes, we've got the Prince of Peace. Yes, peace be with you. But behind these confident (and loud) proclaimations, behind the sermons of peace and the greetings of peace we hear so often within the comfort of our church halls, are most unfortunately a bunch of passive peacelovers.    more »

We often hear Christians say, we must "spread the gospel", or "share the gospel" (I would personally use the more pompous words "proclaim or declare the gospel"). But as with the usage of other words in any languages, familarity breeds contempt, or rather familarity breeds complacency. Christians may take it for granted that we know and understand this term well. And often, the meaning of words may be diluted in our over-usage.   more »

Give me that bloody sword
And the broken arrow head,
And all the iron ore,
Cast'd in hateful state.
Bring me the hearts of stone,
Fount of lustful desires
That burn with furious passions
Of angry hellish fire.
Bring me every woman and man
Who repays hate with hate
Who lives a hand for a hand
Who plants evil in evil's stead.
Give me all of these
The sins of the earth;
For the gentle Dove of Peace,
And a greater piece of Love.

Remove the war machines
Let the cedars grow
Let the valley children sing
Where the Euphrates flows.
Purge the plains of Ariel,
With waters from Jordan's stream
Let Love and Peace prevail
Accomplish'd the seers' dream.
Serpent of the ancient Farm
Flee ye from Lebanon's mount,
Soon, Love shall thee disarm
And Peace shall crush thy crown.
